Title: Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies
Author: William Shakespeare
Price: GBP 54,861.00
Publisher: London 1632

William Shakespeare _________ The Second Folio - 1632 One of an estimated 200 copies of the Second Folio extant in the world (of an estimated 750-1000 copies originally printed), of which some 170 of those copies are institutionalized. This is one of thus only thirty or so copies available to collectors in the world, and far more complete then most! The latest census of First Folios stands at 233, which would appear to make the Second Folio even rarer! Unlike many copies, ours bears a partial title page and a superb Milton page (representing the very first appearance of Milton in print)! Bound in beautiful 17th Century contemporary boards, with the spine re-backed for a perfect match to the boards, and in contrast to many folios that are in 19th or 20th Century bindings. The text is for the most part quite clean, although the pages have been somewhat tightly trimmed (and in some cases to the rule line), but with no text missing. The final two leaves of Henry V are in excellent facsimile, as is the last textual leaf of the volume (the final page of Cymbeline) and the "To The Reader" leaf (as usual). A vintage facsimile portrait has also been uniquely inlaid onto a partial authentic title page! The overall measurements of the paper are 8 inches wide by 12 inches high. With First Folios now selling in the $5,000,000.00 price range, and a perfect Second Folio now a $300,000.00 to $500,000.00 item, this offering represents a rare "Sweet Spot" for a second folio. Consider that this world icon is virtually complete with a superb Milton poem, partial title page, and exquisitely bound in beautiful 17th Century boards, yet offered at an affordable price to the discriminating collector or institution seeking great value for their money! Offered at $79,000.00 (More info)
