[London Transport] Imperial Pilgrimage
by Robert Byron
London Passenger Transport Board, London, 1937.

First edition (stated “First Impression, 1937” on verso of title. The final leaf carries the printer’s string 4.37 30M 1592). Small paperback in format, printed brown card covers in d/w. Pp. 72 + b/w frontispiece and a further 6pp. b/w illustrations. Includes Index.

A very good copy and I suspect unusually so. The d/w is a very thin and flimsy thing (and scarce) but is here well preserved. The spine has faded and there are short splits at head and tail of fold of front wing and tail of rear wing; small chips at head and tail of spine. The card covers are browned and there is very little light spotting on the half-title. There is also an owner’s name on half-title. The book is unworn.

Included in the lot is a small pamphlet folded concertina-style titled Going Places? It folds out to c. 15 x 61 cms and includes photographs and brief text on eleven destinations served by Green Line Coaches. This is also published by London Transport. It’s undated but carries the printer’s code 37—3567 so I assume it too was published in 1937. It’s in fine, unworn condition.

Robert Byron needs no introduction. The book was produced as promotional matter for London Transport and includes details of nearest Underground station or Green Line route. It was well produced: sewn in sections and on good quality paper. A title in the “London-in-your-Pocket” series.

This book ships from Australia.
Postage worldwide (registered post) is £8.85.
