| Forum: An auction at PBA Galleries. Posted: 2010 Aug 01 10:03 (Sunday) Comments: 4 view |
Once again I will draw attention to a sale of fine literature. PBA Galleries has a sale on the 8/5, with an eclectic mix of literature first editions;Sale # 434 - 'Fine Literature with Illustrated & Children's Books; Fine Press Books.' There are handfuls of Steinbeck's, Twain's, London's, and Milne's. There is a first of 'Gone with the Wind,' and the first Shephard-illustrated 'Wind in the Willows.' The sale provides for a lovely sale catalogue to browse through, which allows us to gain some insight into the current asking prices for mid and high point literature.
There is wonderful Dickens material, including sets of the monthly demy octavo part runs of a number of titles. My favourite lot is 60, which is a play based on 'Nicholas Nickleby' that had been written and performed a third of the way through the monthly part run of Dickens's novel. It was published by Chapman and Hall, which meant that the play had met with the approval of Dickens, - it is bound in the original cloth and delectably rare.
There's still time to leave a bid, - I for one am busily trying to manoeuvre some funds about. |
